Small works on paper, as studies for larger paintings

I am currently making small acrylic works on paper, 9”x12” with a plan of interpreting them as larger paintings. A common practice among artists but for me has rarely resulted in a new body of work. Last night I visualized the process and it felt organic. The approach and brushwork recalled earlier successful paintings that had sold. It felt fresh, this idea of repeating the process on a larger scale. With this approach and pending new work I feel optimistic.

I believe when complete this group of work may be my most successful Marketing Plan. Of course the work has not yet been created but for me making the work has always been the easy part. I’m learning to trust my instincts more which is the result of consistency and acceptance. If we are lucky we can get to a point where we can make some work that is honest and that is all we can do. It comes from a place of trust.
